How to Get to Great Wall in Tianjin

Huangyaguang Great Wall (黄崖关长城) is the only accessible great wall in Tianjin, located in Jixian County, in the northern suburban area. It is about 140km to Tianjin Station (city center)，about 2.5h by bus and it is even further than the distance from Tianjin to Beijing. Travellers can also take a high speed bullet train to Beijing and explore the more representative great wall sections, which are better-preserved and much greater in scale.

Tianjin to Huangyaguan Great Wall

There are direct buses from Tianjin city to Huangyaguan, and the bus departs at Tianjin Tongsha Bus Station (天津通莎客运站) from 7am to 3pm, 4 times a day and the bus fare is about CNY 50 per person with about 2.5 hours’ duration. Besides taking a bus, you can also get to Tianjin North Railway Station (天津北站) or Tianjin Railway Station (天津站), which is right next to Tianjin Tongsha Bus Station in the city center area. Multiple S trains depart from the two stations to Jizhou North Railway Station (蓟州北站), and there are about 7 trains a day from 7am to 7pm. After getting to the train station, you can grab a taxi or charter a mini bus to Huangyaguan Great Wall and reach there within about 30min.

How to Get to Great Wall in Beijing

Isn’t it amazing that you can reach Beijing within 0.5h by bullet train from Tianjin, over 140km away? There are over 170 daily high speed bullet trains running from 6:00am to 1:00am from Tianjin (Tianjin Railway Station, Tianjin South Railway Station, Tianjin West Railway Station, Binhai Railway Station) to Beijing South Railway Station.

With these high speed bullet trains, you can easily transfer to Beijing and get to multiple Great Wall Sections from the railway stations in Beijing, and the nearest one is only about 80km (about 1.5h by car) from Beijing city center.

You can easily transfer from Tianjin to Beijing by high speed bullet train, regardless of which railway station, cruise port and airport you plan to depart from.

Tianjin Port to Great Wall

Located in the east outskirts of Tianjin, Tianjin Port (Tianjin Cruise Port) is about 70km away from Tianjin Railway Station (city center). However, Binhai Railway Station (滨海高铁站) is right close to the port within about 28km (about 35min by car), you can always get to the railway station by taxi and head to Beijing. After getting off the train, you can explore Beijing City and the Great Wall.

How to get to Huangyaguan Great Wall from Tianjin

 By coach

1. Take a long-distance bus from Tianjin Tongsha Passenger Station to Huangyaguan Great Wall directly. The buses depart at 7:10, 10:10, 14:00, and 15:00. Duration is about 2 hours and bus fare is CNY 48.
2. Take a bus from Tianjin Tongsha Passenger Station to Jixian County, and it takes about 1.5h. Upon arrival, take Jixian Bus No. 3 or a taxi to the Great Wall.
 

 By Train

Take a train from Tianjin Railway Station or Tianjin North Railway Station to Jixian County Railway Station. It would take 1.5 - 2.5 hours and costs less than CNY 20 to the county. Then, charter a minibus to the scenic area.

Walk about 50meters to the Jixian Railway Station to take the Limutai tour bus line No.8.

Get off at Limutai Station, and then you should walk forward about 120 meters. You will find another Limutai bus station.

Take a Huangyaguan tour bus line No. 5 to Huangyaguan Great Wall Station.

If the tour lines are not operating, you could charter a mini-bus to the site.

 

Trasports from airport to Tianjin city

From Tianjin Airport passengers can get to Tianjin city centre by Metro. 

LINE 2

Line 2 is the yellow line and has a metro station within Tianjin Airport facilities: Binhai International Airport Station.

Daily, from 06:00 to 22:05.

Frequency vary according to the hour of day but it is normally between 6 and 8 minutes on weekdays, and 8 and 10 minutes on weekends.

Fare to city centre is 3 yuan.

To Airport Economic Area (Metro Station)

It is free and takes 15 minutes. Service hours: 10:45h, 12:15h, 13:15h, 15:45h and 17:45h.

Bus stops are located in Gate 2 of Domestic Arrivals. 

CITY BUS 

Tanggu Development Zone Special Bus

It works from the airport from 8:30h until 21:00h. Travel time is 30 minutes and fare is 25 CNY. Some stops are Teda Central Hotel, Minghao Aviation, among others. 

Airport Special Bus No. 4 

It covers the route from the Airport to Tangshandao Bus Stop. Travel time is 1 hour and fare is 3 CNY. Some bus stops are Chubei Road, Cuifu New Village, Shanghang Garden, Wanxing Garden, among others. 

Airport Special Bus No. 5

It goes from the Airport to Leyuan Bus Stop. Travel time is 60 minutes. Fare is 3 CNY. Some bus stops are: Leyuan, Xinanlou, Tianjin Daily Building (North), Guanghua Bridge, Dazhingu, Cotton Spinning 1st Mill, Armed Police Force Hospital, among others.
